Allison,
When I purchased my bike a Suzuki mechanic gave me a tour on the 'how to's and what's that?' before I took it out of the store. He told me that when the engine was cold I should pull out the choke and count to about 15 ( 1...2...3...ect.) and then push it (the choke) back in. He said when the engine is warm I should not need to use the choke at all. After having my bike awhile and getting familiar with her 'sounds' when I hear the output of the engine change while the choke is out I go ahead and push it (the choke) into the off position. So far, I've had no problems following the fellow's advice. My bike is new, 1998 inventory left over, and only has 100 miles on it so I would not expect any problems at this stage of the game. I am soooooo pleased with my little Savage....wish I'd gotten one years ago.
Good Luck
Susan
